Some real nice little noodling around before Wharf Rat and a solid Rat to follow. Otherwise standard exploration through the jams- i would not say new ground was broken, but a well worn trail was again happily strolled. jerry slices through that b/s right quick so things can get real with cowboy neal. Out of Space with a max headroom/beverly hills cop keyboard Other One (can somebody reign brent in tonight?). Jerry's guitar is just beautiful in parts of this- running up and down waves, bobby keeping the beacon light burning on shore, calling jerry in he comes in, billy goes out, phil crashes against the ghosts of the Wall of Sound, but nonetheless,Ĭrickets and cicadas sing a rare and different tune they are now ready to call for Terrapin, to open the book. They find it here, on the late backpages of a saint of circumstance. Saint starts kinda loose, mumbly, but that's all preamble, it's all right- bobby don't care, he's got short shorts and he can hear the sirens call, cause you know that he knows that he's gonna go for you fo show. Good bobby call to step it down- he took one for the team- i agree with reviewer L.Rosely ()- he sounds a bit slurred, but hell, can't Bobby have a few brewski's?- he's trying hard to heard them into the groove. read "Calvin Gets Hooked" () for a better review on this one- I wasn't here, he/she was and it sounds like it was fun. but somehow a faint whif of a polka shuffle- brent?!? the boys all have fun with itīottom line: it's not the stoniest or the most rocking H>S>F but you can't argue with it. imagine a solid layer of smoke fogging through the stage lights right around now, folks settling in, resigning themselves to the roses, to the beacon light of Franklin's Tower. soon enough they shake it off and get down to biznatch, as it were in 1983, fuzzy sideburns and all, somewhere in the twilight of Help, just before they Slip into something more comfortable. I think backstage they got rushed (or maybe bumped?) back out- the start of Help on the Way is hurried, choppy, almost awkward. What shall we say, shall we call it by a name? but at Let is Grow, Phil and Jerry really get tuned in, 1974 style, and we start going somewhere. prior to Let it Grow an ok Birdsong, ok Loser, boring All Over Now and a Duprees is always nice to hear, no matter what. Ok-so-so 1st set until really Let it Grow, then the strange gets on and don't let up.

Not everyone was meant to sing a holiday classic and Max brings that home as he plays with all the holiday special tropes. It is almost a little jarring and grating, but it makes for an excellent take-off on holiday specials and their music. There is something extra compelling about seeing Max try to fit into a holiday template. And this video? Well this video, just like most things starring ol’ Max is just plain magical. Now the song might not be a holiday classic, but it is a great sometimes forgotten piece of the 1980s. Gimme Shades and other songs have been posted online, but only as rips from the Max Headroom Christmas Show. While both songs can be found on the single, only Merry Christmas Santa Claus (You’re A Lovely Guy) has been posted online in a decent video and recorded form. It was released as a single on Chrysalis records with the B side, Gimme Shades. So while I am sure this song was recorded earlier in 1986, by the Winter momentum had petered out. So if it is not that, maybe it was too late? Max made his splash in 1984 and really peaked in popularity from 1985 to early 1986. Let’s assume it isn’t because of the quality.

In 1986, the song by Max Headroom, Merry Christmas Santa Claus (You’re A Lovely Guy) was released and unfortunately did not take the world by storm.

That is a shame when that song SHOULD become a holiday classic. Some songs get released and are quickly forgotten.
